I wasn’t aware of the magnitude of human trafficking before writing this book. I was like so many others who were oblivious to the actual truth or statistics on human trafficking. I had heard about it on the news; I saw some celebrities talking about it, and some endorsed the cause, but that was the extinct of my knowledge. It didn’t hit home to me because it didn’t affect my world, per se. I was comfortable in my life, going to church and work every day, praying, living my life to the fullest, with no major cares, but mine to focus on. But all that changed in the Spring of 2017. The Lord woke me up from my slumber, and gave me the story “Zoe’s Eyes.” In the beginning, I wanted to call it the “Long Journey Home” but the more I did research, and as the story evolved, I knew it was about the eyes of one woman’s destiny to assist with human trafficking.

When I started my research, and believe me, I researched, I couldn’t comprehend the harsh realities of human trafficking, especially sex trafficking. Surely, in this day and time, I couldn’t believe it happened, and not only globally, but in our country, and in my very back yard, my community. It didn’t make sense that I wasn’t aware of something so serious, and that there were young girls exploited, abused, and misused all for the love of one person’s lust and greed. I thought about my beautiful nieces and great nieces. Sadly, I thought about my nephews and great nephews. I thought about all of my beautiful and special daughters, and their daughters.

The Lord doesn’t use one voice; He uses many voices. Mine is a voice in print to let many, who like me, never realize the true depths, and harsh realities of human trafficking. With my voice, along with many others nationally and internationally, we can make a difference. Our prayers and support can cause many to be saved from the snares of trafficking. My mother always said, “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” She also said, which I live by (see mom, I listened), “If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.” How do these two relate? Just get involved, and let someone know that you care. I am paraphrasing this, but the message is the same: “Am I my sister’s keeper?” Yes I am.

For every book I sell, I am going to donate thirty percent (30%) of the royalty to fighting human trafficking. It seems like a lot; however, you cannot put a price on someone’s life.
